Martin Wessel
Martin Wessel completed his Bachelor's degree in Philosophy & Economics from the University of Bayreuth, during which he studied development economics during a stay at the Indira Gandhi Institute for Development Research in Mumbai. His interest in data analysis led him to work in a data analysis department, which encouraged him to pursue a Master's degree in Social and Economic Data Science at the University of Konstanz. During his master's, he focused on natural language processing (NLP) and joined a research group on media bias, which ultimately led him to a research stay at the National Institute of Informatics in Tokyo.
Alongside his studies, Martin worked as a tutor and at the Cluster of Excellence "The Politics of Inequality," where he contributed to a project aimed at measuring inequality in Germany. Though not set on a Ph.D. topic yet, with a desire to continue exploring the interface between NLP and social sciences, Martin plans to pursue further ideas on media bias detection.
Martin joined the CDTM as a CA in March 2023. He is currently co-owning the Digital Changemaker course and is responsible for the Onboarding taskforce.
