We’re proud to share that our alumni Magdalena Bachinger (Fall ’23) and Nils Krüger (Spring ’23) have co-authored a new study published in JAMA, a leading international medical journal. 👏
Real-world evidence, drawn from routine healthcare data rather than clinical trials, is often described as key to modern regulation. Yet this new study shows it rarely influences drug approvals in Europe.
They analyzed 423 European Medicines Agency approvals from 2020 to 2023 and found that real-world evidence played a role in fewer than one in ten cases. Even when included, its impact on decisions was often hard to trace.
Magdalena holds a Bachelor’s degree in Management & Technology from TUM and is currently pursuing her MD, researching how real-world evidence informs regulatory decisions on drug approvals in Europe.
Nils holds an MD from LMU and is currently a Research Fellow at Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women’s Hospital.
They first met at CDTM and now continue to work together on research — showing that CDTM is also a place for researchers, where science and technology meet. 💙
We’re proud to see our students contribute to research at the intersection of science, technology, and impact. 🚀
