How Did CDTM Arrive in Valencia?

As CDTM Munich looked to expand its vision internationally, it sought a city that embodied innovation, academic excellence, and an entrepreneurial spirit. Valencia emerged as the perfect candidate — a growing tech ecosystem, a vibrant student community, and strong institutional support.

In collaboration with the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) and the Universitat de València (UV), and backed by the Valencian government, CDTM Valencia was born. This joint effort created a unique academic and innovation program designed to equip students with the skills to shape the future.

The first class launched in 2022, laying the foundations of a dynamic, local community connected to a global network. By 2024, CDTM Valencia had already become a launchpad for real entrepreneurial initiatives, and in 2025, the program reached a new milestone: for the first time, it welcomed two cohorts — a Winter Class and a Summer Class — doubling its impact and reach.

What is CDTM?

CDTM Valencia is a selective, interdisciplinary honors program that combines technology, entrepreneurship, and design. It brings together students from diverse fields — from engineering and computer science to business, law, and the arts — to solve real-world problems through hands-on learning.

The program is part-time and runs alongside university studies. Students engage in three main modules (Trend Seminar, Managing Product Development, and the Innovation Lab), where they collaborate with companies, build real prototypes, and develop entrepreneurial solutions.

Inside the Program

Trend Seminar

Analyze the future. Students research how a specific sector might evolve over the next 50 years based on current trends and technologies. In partnership with a company, the team publishes a report that highlights key insights and opportunities.

Recent topics:

  • Sustainable Innovation in Mediterranean Industries
  • Digital Transformation in Tourism

Managing Product Development

Build real prototypes. In teams of 3–5, students collaborate with different Project Partners to identify user needs and develop a product or service prototype. The module emphasizes interdisciplinary collaboration, iterative design, and user-centric development.

Recent projects:

  • Smart solutions for water management
  • AI tools for local businesses

Innovation Lab (eLab)

Simulate a startup launch. Teams take ideas from earlier modules and shape them into a market-ready concept. Through validation, business modeling, and pitching, students simulate the process of bringing a product to life — often laying the groundwork for real ventures.

Focus areas:

  • Business model validation
  • Go-to-market strategy
  • Investor pitching

Workshops & Electives

Throughout the year, students participate in specialized workshops and electives that complement the core modules. These sessions provide deeper insights into specific topics and allow students to customize their learning journey.

Example electives:

  • Design Thinking for Social Innovation
  • Mediterranean Entrepreneurship
  • Tech Ethics and Responsible Innovation
